Field Trips

Yesterday we went to the Shakespeare Tavern in Atlanta, Georgia to see Macbeth. I love this place! The actors just make Shakespeare come alive. They are awesome. They give school matinees, which is nice to curb the cost. Also, during the matinees, you can bring lunches in to eat during intermission. This was well worth the drive. I hope to be able to take the boys to another play in the spring. "A Christmas Carol" will be performed this December. I would love to see that one. I would imagine that they would put on an outstanding performance!

We have been able to have some really great field trips this school year. The information that we receive at these places is wonderful. I appreciate how everyone at the places we have visited put so much passion into what they are doing.

We are enjoying the days of autumn here. The weather has been absolutely amazing this week. Watching the leaves change is always a fun event. We are near a state park that is having hayrides all through October. We hope to be able to take part in one of those. I would imagine that you could see some awesome leaves during this hayride!

This month has been full of birthdays in our family. My dad celebrated his birthday earlier in the month, and just this week we celebrated my mother-in-law's birthday. My youngest son will be celebrating his 15th birthday this weekend. What a wonderful month!

What a Great Day!

We went on a field trip today to the IMAX theater in Chattanooga, Tennessee. We were able to see the movie "Under The Sea". After the movie we got to meet the makers of the film. They gave a talk and answered some questions. I thought their talk was fascinating. They told about everything that goes into making underwater films. They have made IMAX films, National Geographic films, PBS, and Discovery channel films. Just getting all the equipment to the site of filming is a daunting task. The film they use for the IMAX runs for 3 minutes. So, they have to reload after that time. Oh, and getting those wonderful shots takes patience, lots of patience. I now have a greater appreciation for the work that goes into the making of those movies. The above picture is of two of my boys inside the Tennessee Aquarium. We had a great lunch at Cheeburger, Cheeburger.

It was a very enjoyable day. Now, we get to be entertained by bands right behind our house! Our county is hosting a Balloons & Tunes Festival this weekend. There will be hot air balloons, crafts, food of all sorts, a children's area, and lots of music. On Sunday, they are having a church service with festivities to follow. I hope to have lots of pictures! I will get to sit on my deck and enjoy life!!

Chattanooga Zoo

This week we visited the Chattanooga Zoo. We had a great time! It had been awhile since we last visited and boy, have they made some improvements! The zoo is really looking good. This is a picture of the boys at the entrance to the Red Panda exhibit. There are several different types of snakes to view.

These guys are so funny to watch. The way they interact with each other and with visitors is amusing!

I know this one was wanting some food. We didn't see the food dispenser until we were leaving this area. Sorry!

We enjoyed our visit and hope to see the Knoxville Zoo next. Have a super Friday!

We went on a field trip with our homeschool group to the Gordon-Lee House in Chickamauga, Georgia. This house was taken during the battle at Chickamauga to be used as the Union hospital. After the battle, several Union soldiers who could not be moved were left to be taken prisoners. The Confederate army had to wait for these soldiers to get well enough to move on. After they moved on, the house was taken back by the owners.

This cabin was where the owners originally lived while the house was being built. As people were smaller during that time, the roof and the ceiling inside are much lower. I believe our guide told us that women were on average around 4'9" with men not much taller than that.

They have restored the house using all period pieces. We did not get to see the kitchen, as they are doing repairs. I want to return at Christmas for the celebrations. They use the fireplace during that time and have tours with hot cider and cookies.

We had a great day with the sun shining. Our guide was very interesting with little side stories that made the house just come alive!
