Nashville Weekend

Last weekend we headed to Nashville,Tennessee for the state Mathcounts competition. What a great time we had! It rained all the way there and all day Saturday, but we still enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Chase on Saturday morning before heading over to the competition site. The competition was held at the Adventure Science Museum. We didn't go through the museum, but I do want to go back and check it out. It looked like they had some great exhibits.
The team before the competition started. Some of the team members are also on chess teams. When the competition started, only the team members could be in the room. The coaches and parents could come in for the individual countdown round. The team placed 6th. I believe that there were 12 teams there. No one on our team went on to the individual round, but boy was that exciting to watch! After the individual round, they announced the top 4 scorers on the problems the teams had completed previously. Those top 4 go on to make up the Tennessee state team which advances to the nationals in Orlando. I compliment all those who participated in this event. It was such a wonderful learning experience. Our host for the event also did a super job! They provided breakfast and lunch for the participants and the parents. How sweet!!

After the competition, we decided to check out the full size replica of the Parthenon. It was amazing! We were pretty tired, physically and mentally, at this point, so we headed back to the hotel. We watched a movie, then went down and spent some time in the hot tub. Wow, was that ever relaxing!

Sunday morning, we visited a church in Nashville, then headed over to Opry Mills Mall. We ate at the Rainforest Cafe. Even though our meal was very filling, we found room for the ever popular Volcano Cake. It was a delicious ending to our meal.

After eating, Mike, Clay, and Chase went to Bass Pro Shop. Clint went to Barnes and Noble and I headed to the Apple Barn store. We had a limited time before heading home, so we decided this was our best option ( even though Clint had to call me to persuade me to leave the Apple Barn store!).
It was a wonderful, relaxing weekend. We saw many things we would like to go back and investigate. Maybe this summer....
Have a great weekend!
Kim

That sounds like a fun weekend. I have never visited the Partheon, but B. went on a field trip in 6th grade.
I have been planning to go ever since. The math counts team sounds interesting, although our family would need an "English counts" team because we stink at math. : )
